Background

Before starting work as a psychotherapist I had a long career in corporate IT where I was highly respected for my ability to grasp complex topics and offer new insights, as well as my attitude of calm under pressure. I came to therapy after a divorce, and over time this helped thaw some aspects of my personality that had been frozen for a long time. This led to a career change, so I studied intensely at the respected Metanoia Institute to qualify as a psychotherapist - which I think of as upgrading from working with computers to working with the most complex and interesting system there is.

During training I gained over 200 hours of experience providing counselling at different community mental health services; Mind (Islington), MCPS, and Lot36. Working with the huge variety of clients at these agencies taught me that there is no formula — every person who comes to therapy is genuinely different, and the work has to start from there.

Working together

In our work together I am striving to be as genuine as I can with my care and my attention, without judgement. My approach is called Person-Centred Pluralistic Counselling — modern, evidence-based, and focused on empowering you to find the changes you need rather than diagnosing or prescribing them. It also means I pay close attention to what works for you specifically, rather than applying the same method to everyone, and I can bring a wide variety of different elements to the work. It is similar in style to humanistic integrative.

I have a lot of experience with neurodivergence, and I strive to work in a manner that is both trauma-informed and welcoming to all regardless of age, race, culture, gender, ability, or sexuality.
